Company History

Frank Tedeschi started his career in wood restoration with his family in Long Island City, New York. His love for beautiful furniture came to him at a young age, as his mother was always a lover of Italian Antiques. Through her love for one-of-a-kind furniture and hand carved details, she taught Frank the value in wood and the meaning behind an artisans craftsmanship. Together, they started a modest family collection which eventually grew into a passionate career, and now 40 years later a family-owned and operated business.

Never forgetting the work involved in hand crafting furniture, The Refinishing Company grew around these two core values: never compromise on honesty and quality work. These values, along with Frank’s staffed artisans is what makes The Refinishing Company stand out against the crowd. His years of experience has fortified his relationships and allowed him and his men the opportunity to work along side some of the industries top professionals. A few major clients The Refinishing Company is proud to have serviced are; PVH Corp. (Calvin Klein boutique, New York City), The Associated Press Building, and Rockefeller Center. Along with Stanley Steamers, many interior designers, decorators, architects, industry wood workers and cabinet makers.

Although no job is too big or too small, Frank especially has a soft spot in his heart for restoring family heir-looms, I guess he has his mother to thank for that.

Frank, the owner, is awesome. I made an appointment with him, and he came when he said. He refinished a very special hutch that has been in my family for about 100 years. At the time he came to see the hutch, we were dealing with losing my mom and cleaning out her house. Frank picked up the hutch at her house in queens and delivered it to mine in suffolk when it was done. He gave me a great price. I cannot say enough about Frank's personality and ethics. Having to deal with so many other things going on at the time, it was so great to have someone who just handled everything and did so with respect, consideration and professionalism. The only thing I had to do was get handles and choose the color. After Frank's employees finished half the piece, Frank was not happy with the color. So, he called us to go back and pick another color. Frank kept in touch every step of the way. This hutch is so very important to me and my family, and I did not feel the least bit nervous about leaving it in his hands. Based on his reviews and his personality, I knew it would turn out great. Well, it far exceeded my expectations. They had a lot to deal with. The piece was originally redone by two different people, so the top was a different color than the bottom, and none of the doors were ever refinished. As a matter of fact, one of them was sanded way too much, and we were worried that it would not turn out well. In addition, four of the doors on top are beveled glass--not easy to strip the wood that surrounds it. Despite all of the challenges, they did an awesome job. I have never in my lifetime seen that hutch look so beautiful. When they carried in the first piece, it brought tears to my eyes. Words cannot express the gratitude and happiness I feel for the experience I had with Frank and his employees and how beautiful the hutch turned out. With so many companies not caring about their clients, it is so important to me when I find someone who is the complete opposite. I will recommend Frank to everyone I know who is looking to have anything refinished, and I plan to send him more of my own furniture. This was an awesome experience. I just sit and stare at the hutch because I cannot believe how beautiful it looks. With all of the problems, it is a miracle how beautiful it looks. Oh, and let me not forget, Frank personally delivered the hutch with one of his employees. I still have not put anything in it because I am loving the way it looks, and I'm just not ready to change it right now. Thanks for everything Frank. You are fantastic all around.

Frank is an old-world master craftsman. This large table had been in my family for 4 generations, and was in awful shape - wobbly, water-stained, and in places worn through to bare wood. Frank and his crew strengthened and beautifully refinished the table and all 8 of its leaves. His work was done exactly as requested, on-time, and for a reasonable price. He also strengthened and refinished 6 very wobbly and stained Queen Anne chairs to match the table and to no longer wobble. I couldn't recommend him highly enough. If you have a nice piece of furniture that needs work, he's your man.

Frank refinished 2 oak chairs we had purchased at an antique vendor out east (Long Island). We supplied him with a sample stain color of a separate oak table to match with the chairs. We were exceptionally happy with the results. The chairs were part of a wedding shower gift and we could not have been happier. We will use their services again and would recommend Frank to anyone wanting to have furniture refinished.

Provided, refinished, and rebuilt an antique secretary (desk) for me. Difficult job, since it had a lacquer finish on it. Lovely guy, sensible and easy to deal with, and the work was fantastic. I cannot recommend Frank more strongly. It did take a while to finish, but that was okay with me.

Frank was pure pleasure to work with. He is the consummate professional and the furniture we asked him to refinish looks like it's brand new. The piece is 100 years old! This man went above and beyond for us and in the end we now refer to him as an Artist! You simply can't go wrong here. I would highly recommend him.
